A domestic construction machinery manufacturer shipped crawler crane electric drive assemblies (with built-in batteries) to South Korea, entrusting Tianjin E-CHAIN Logistics as the full-logistics general contractor under sea freight DAP (Delivered At Place) terms.
The cargo is large-size sensitive equipment with batteries. E-CHAIN Logistics conducted preliminary document review in advance, implemented packaging and reinforcement in compliance with IMDG maritime dangerous goods regulations, arranged trucks for factory pickup, and completed export customs declaration at Weihai Port. After ocean shipment to the South Korean port, local logistics was arranged to deliver the goods to the consignee’s factory site in South Korea. DAP delivery is fulfilled when the cargo remains on the vehicle pending unloading.

Project Background

A Chinese construction machinery manufacturer received a purchase order from a Korean customer for an electric drive assembly (with built-in battery) of a crawler crane.

Core Customer Requirements

The goods are large-sized construction machinery assemblies equipped with batteries, classified as sensitive cargo for ocean shipping. Conventional ocean freight channels impose numerous restrictions on battery-powered equipment, with stringent requirements for battery documentation, packaging and customs declaration.

The trade term is DAP (Delivered At Place) to the destination. The logistics provider shall deliver the goods to the designated factory address in South Korea. The Korean buyer shall handle and bear all costs related to South Korea’s import customs clearance, import duties and taxes.

The cargo is a precision construction machinery assembly, which requires professional reinforcement and moisture-proof protection to prevent impact and damage during ocean transit.

TIANJIN E-CHAIN LOGISTICS is entrusted to coordinate the full logistics chain, including domestic pickup, export customs declaration, ocean transportation, and destination inland trucking to the consignee’s address in South Korea.

Project Challenges

The cargo is a construction machinery assembly with built-in lithium batteries, which is classified as sensitive cargo for ocean freight. Advance review of MSDS and UN38.3 test reports is required. Battery marking, reinforcement protection and compliant declaration shall be completed in accordance with IMDG Code to mitigate inspection risks.

As a large and precision equipment, dedicated planning is needed for domestic trucking and container stowage & lashing schemes. Moisture-proof and shock-proof protection must be implemented to ensure safe transportation of the precision drive assembly.

Under DAP terms, the scope of responsibilities is clearly defined: our party shall deliver the goods to the gate of the Korean customer’s factory (goods remain on truck awaiting unloading). The division of responsibilities shall be confirmed in advance with both the seller and buyer to avoid subsequent disputes over customs clearance and tax liabilities.

End-to-end milestone tracking is required to synchronize logistics information between the domestic factory and the overseas consignee.

Logistics Solution by TIANJIN E-CHAIN LOGISTICS

TIANJIN E-CHAIN LOGISTICS undertakes this project to provide one-stop coordination for the full logistics transportation process:

Factory Pick-up: Arrange trucks to collect goods at the manufacturing plant. On-site exterior protection, reinforcement and lashing of the equipment will be carried out, with moisture-proof and shock-proof packaging properly applied.

Document Pre-review & Export Customs Declaration: Conduct advance review of the complete battery documentation, standardize battery labels, complete commodity classification, book space at Tianjin Port, and handle domestic export customs clearance formalities.

China-Korea Sea Freight: Load cargo at Weihai Port for direct ocean shipment to Busan or Incheon Port in South Korea. The full logistics track is traceable, and key milestones will be updated to the customer in real time.

Destination Port Last-Mile Delivery: After cargo arrival at the port, arrange local Korean trucking fleets to deliver the goods to the factory address designated by the Korean buyer. DAP delivery is completed once the goods arrive on truck awaiting unloading at destination.

Dedicated Project Coordinator: Assign a specialist for end-to-end communication. Timely updates will be provided for each milestone including pick-up, container loading, vessel departure, port arrival and final delivery until the goods reach the destination.

Important Notice: Under DAP terms, the Korean buyer shall be responsible for South Korea import customs clearance, import duties and taxes, and destination unloading. E-Chain Logistics may assist by providing supporting documents required for customs clearance.

Project Achievements

This project for the electric drive assembly (with built-in battery) of the crawler crane has successfully completed DAP delivery at place. The large-size sensitive battery-powered equipment was transported safely throughout the journey, with smooth export customs clearance and on-time delivery to the Korean customer’s factory premises.

The project clearly defined the rights and obligations under the DAP trade term, meeting the overseas logistics requirements of the Chinese manufacturer while enabling the Korean buyer to independently handle import customs clearance and duty payment.

TIANJIN E-CHAIN LOGISTICS has hands-on experience in exporting new-energy construction machinery and large battery-equipped equipment to South Korea. It is capable of providing total logistics package services for sea freight DAP destination delivery.
