8 September Shipment of Komatsu Crawler Excavators to the Port of Durban
TIANJIN E-CHAIN LOGISTICS: Assisting a South African Client in the Successful Shipment of Komatsu Crawler Excavators to the Port of Durban
In the landscape of international construction machinery trade, efficient and professional logistics services are the key to ensuring the smooth execution of projects. Recently, TIANJIN E-CHAIN LOGISTICS SUPPLY-CHAIN CO.,LTD (hereinafter referred to as “E-CHAIN Logistics”), leveraging its extensive expertise in breakbulk cargo transportation, successfully assisted a South African client in safely and efficiently shipping a batch of Komatsu crawler excavators from Tianjin Port to South Africa’s Port of Durban. This operation once again demonstrated its professional strength in the logistics of heavy and oversized equipment. Why Choose Breakbulk Vessels for Transporting Construction Machinery? For crawler excavators and similar engineering equipment that exceed standard size and weight limits, traditional container shipping often faces numerous constraints. Breakbulk vessel transport offers a more flexible solution. Compared to Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) vessels, breakbulk vessels generally provide greater load capacity and more cost-effective advantages when carrying large quantities of heavy, oversized cargo. In this collaboration, the E-CHAIN Logistics team thoroughly assessed the cargo parameters and the client’s specific requirements, customizing a direct breakbulk shipping solution from Tianjin Port to Durban Port. This approach effectively minimized transshipment risks and ensured the safety and timeliness of the cargo throughout the voyage. End-to-End Professional Operations to Ensure Flawless Execution The sea voyage from Tianjin Port to Durban Port typically takes between 38 and 42 days. To ensure voyage safety, E-CHAIN Logistics rigorously managed several critical stages throughout the operation: 1. Booking and Solution Design The shipping of crawler excavators involves complex booking procedures. The primary step is to clearly define the cargo’s dimensions, weight, and center of gravity. Leveraging close partnerships with major shipping lines—Tianjin Port, as a key northern Chinese port, has regular breakbulk sailings calling at Durban—E-CHAIN Logistics secured suitable space and schedules for the client, while proactively planning the lifting and stowage arrangements. 2. Professional Loading and Securing Loading and unloading excavators poses risks of tipping or shifting, demanding a high level of expertise. For these Komatsu crawler excavators, the E-CHAIN Logistics team utilized large shore cranes for lifting operations at the terminal and implemented a strict securing plan, using dunnage, steel wire ropes, and chains for multi-point lashing and securing of the equipment. To account for sea-sway during the voyage and the risk of saltwater corrosion, the team also applied professional waterproofing and anti-collision wrapping to the excavators’ cabins, hydraulic pipelines, and other precision components. 3. Documentation and Compliance Review As an experienced freight forwarder, E-CHAIN Logistics also assisted the client in completing crucial documentation compliance reviews, ensuring accurate HS code classification for the Komatsu crawler excavators to avoid customs clearance delays at the destination port due to declaration errors. Why Choose E-CHAIN Logistics? The successful shipment of this Komatsu excavator project is a testament to E-CHAIN Logistics’ professional capabilities. As a logistics service provider based in the Tianjin Port area, E-CHAIN Logistics specializes in offering comprehensive transportation services, including breakbulk, project cargo, and Ro-Ro shipping, with a strong route network covering multiple major ports in Africa. E-CHAIN Logistics not only provides end-to-end “door-to-door” services—from factory pick-up, warehousing, and port consolidation to customs brokerage, loading, and lashing—but also has accumulated extensive experience in handling engineering equipment, steel products, and heavy-lift cargo. Conclusion As infrastructure cooperation between China and Africa continues to deepen, the cross-border logistics demand for large-scale construction machinery is set to grow steadily. Building on the success of this shipment, TIANJIN E-CHAIN LOGISTICS SUPPLY-CHAIN CO.,LTD will continue to deepen its expertise in the breakbulk and heavy-lift transportation sector, providing safer and more efficient logistics solutions to clients worldwide. 25 August Wheel Excavators Were Shipped From Lianyungang Port To Latakia
Chinese Wheel Excavators Successfully Delivered to Syria: Tianjin E-Chain Logistics Opens New Equipment Supply Corridor
As Syria’s post-war reconstruction accelerates, Chinese-made construction machinery is becoming a vital force in local infrastructure development. Recently, a batch of wheel excavators shipped from China to Syria was successfully transported by TIANJIN E-CHAIN LOGISTICS SUPPLY-CHAIN CO., LTD, which completed the full international ocean freight operation. The key equipment has arrived safely at Syria’s Port of Latakia and will primarily be used for core infrastructure projects including road reconstruction, municipal pipeline networks, and post-war debris clearing. Wheel excavators, as highly mobile engineering equipment, offer greater maneuverability than tracked models for rapid relocation across Syrian city streets and repaired highways, making them a significant portion of this shipment order. However, exporting construction machinery to Syria presents numerous logistical challenges: long shipping distances, complex loading and unloading operations, and intricate customs clearance at the destination port. Leveraging its expertise in breakbulk shipping, Tianjin E-Chain Logistics developed a customized door-to-door integrated logistics solution for this equipment. Departure from Lianyungang Port: Long-Haul Routes and Professional Stowage The domestic loading port for this shipment was Lianyungang Port — a core departure point on China-Syria trade routes. The vessel set sail from Lianyungang Port, traversed the South China Sea, the Strait of Malacca, and the Indian Ocean, transited the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean Sea, and finally docked at Port of Latakia , Syria’s largest commercial port. The total voyage lasted approximately 34 days. As oversized and overweight cargo, wheel excavators require critical lashing and securing procedures to ensure transport safety. Tianjin E-Chain Logistics’ technical team developed specialized flat rack container and deck breakbulk vessel stowage plans based on the equipment’s center of gravity and structural characteristics. By utilizing high-strength steel wire ropes, I-beam welding fixtures, and wooden chocks, the team ensured the equipment withstood rough seas and rolling conditions during the ocean voyage, achieving “zero-damage” delivery. Efficient Operations at Latakia Port and Seamless Customs Clearance Upon arrival at Latakia Port, the equipment was safely discharged using local heavy-lift floating cranes (with a maximum lifting capacity of 100 tons) and various shore cranes. Through its local partner agents, Tianjin E-Chain Logistics completed all customs clearance procedures in advance, including notarized commercial invoice legalization, Certificate of Origin verification, and post-war special cargo inspections. As Syria is in a critical reconstruction phase, the government has implemented certain tariff reduction and exemption policies for heavy machinery imports. Tianjin E-Chain Logistics assisted clients in applying for temporary import duty exemptions under reconstruction projects, significantly reducing overall import costs. The company also coordinated flatbed trailers and truck-mounted cranes to deliver the equipment directly to construction sites around Aleppo or Damascus, achieving true “port-to-door” seamless delivery.

Kenya Officially Enforces the Advance Cargo Declaration (ACD) Regime
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced that effective 3 August 2026, all containerized import cargo shipped to Kenyan ports must complete the Advance Cargo Declaration prior to loading, obtain an ACD Reference Code and have the code indicated on the Bill of Lading. Failure to comply risks shipment rejection, customs clearance delays and additional charges. ACD (Advance Cargo Declaration) is a pre-loading electronic filing mechanism. It requires exporters to submit cargo information electronically to Kenya Customs before goods are loaded onboard at the port of loading. This enables regulatory authorities to conduct risk analysis and import vetting, so as to improve clearance efficiency and strengthen trade supervision. The new platform applies to all containerized cargo destined for Kenyan ports. The ACD Reference Code is a 15-character alphanumeric string, exemplified by ACDKE2026004324. ACDKE: fixed 5-character prefix (ACD plus Kenya country code) 2026: 4-digit year 004324: 6-digit sequential serial number This code constitutes mandatory information to be obtained prior to Bill of Lading issuance. Shippers, exporters or freight forwarders shall follow the procedures below: Register on the official Kenya ACD platform; Upload relevant documents to generate a draft ACD; Pass review, settle applicable fees and obtain the final valid ACD Certificate and Reference Code; Confirm the 15-digit ACD Reference Code is correctly shown on the final Bill of Lading before arranging cargo export. Required documents for application include the draft Bill of Lading, commercial invoice, freight invoice and export declaration. With the official rollout of Kenya’s ACD regime, all parties involved in shipments to Kenya need to adjust operational workflows. Industry recommendations for key attention: Reserve sufficient lead time for ACD application during booking; Strengthen document consistency: information on the commercial invoice, draft Bill of Lading and export declaration must match; Freight forwarders shall remind clients to complete ACD filings in advance to avoid loading disruptions caused by incomplete documents; Carriers must verify correct entry of the ACD Reference Code before issuing Bills of Lading; Enterprises with long-term export business to East Africa are advised to incorporate ACD procedures into standard export workflows to mitigate future compliance risks.
