Tianjin E-Chain Logistics December Shipping Trends

  • 2nd December 2025

Container shipping prices showed regional divergence. European routes saw a short-term rise followed by a decline, North American routes continued to fall, while some routes, such as Australia/New Zealand and Poland/Red Sea, maintained a stable to positive trend.

Major Route Price Dynamics

European Routes:

In early November, driven by peak season demand in the fourth quarter, shipping companies attempted to push up spot rates by increasing the base freight rate (FAK). However, recently, due to insufficient demand growth momentum, freight rates have declined.

North American Routes:

Affected by the poor US economic outlook and weak transportation demand, freight rates continued to fall.

Australia/New Zealand Routes:

Transportation demand remained stable and positive, and freight rates continued to rise.

Poland/Red Sea Routes: Demand grew steadily, and freight rates maintained an upward trend.

South America Route:

Weak demand growth leads to wider freight rate declines.

Short-Term Outlook:

In December, shipping companies collectively announced FAK rate increases for the Europe-Mediterranean route, which may push up quotes. However, whether spot freight rates can continue to rise depends on actual cargo volume. North American routes may continue to face pressure on freight rates due to weak demand. The overall market may experience short-term fluctuations supported by the peak season, but the long-term trend still needs to be observed in light of the global economic recovery and the effectiveness of capacity adjustments.
